BFM: Sanctuary Explained – September 22nd Patch Notes

New this week in Battlefront Mars:

Attention Martians!

In the beginning of September, we have rolled out an update to our Terms of Service and have mentioned it in the Patch Notes for that day.

Part of the update that was of most interest to a lot of players were the policies regarding alt accounts and account sharing. This update, and the warning of “DO NOT SHARE ACCOUNTS” has been foreshadowed as early as at least December of 2021, as per this post on Discord.

Our aim is to be simultaneously stricter on these policies, while also being more lenient. Stricter in a sense that we’re doing more aggressive account sharing detection and active-but-hidden alt detection; and more lenient, in a sense that low-count offenders are not necessarily moved to the Prison map right away. Hence, the introduction of “Sanctuary“.

Here are a few FAQs that we have gotten, and possible explanations.

What is Sanctuary?

Sanctuary is where a player base goes when it is involved in a violation of, typically, but not limited to, the alt-account policy.

What is the Difference Between Sanctuary and Prison?

Previously, offenders are sent to a different map or to Prison. If a player is in Prison, they will be unable to get out unless the imprisonment was a mistake, and an admin releases the player.

With Sanctuary, the player is free to move out on after a set number of days, depending on the violation. However, a player that makes frequent trips to Sanctuary will ultimately find themselves in Prison, and will no longer be able to get out.

Why am I in Sanctuary?

The player is sent an in-game message of why they were sent to Sanctuary, as well as for how long they will need to wait before they can go back to the map type they’ve been banished from. The length of the sentence depends on the violation incurred.

Effective today, if you are in Sanctuary, you will be able to jump to a map that you specifically have not been banished from.

For example, if you were moved to Sanctuary for an alt-violation, you will be banished from anti-alt maps for X days, but you are free to move to an alt-allowed map until your sentence is over.

As always, if you feel that you have been mis-identified as an alt, please contact support.

I received no message on why I am in Sanctuary/Prison

Some players have found themselves in Sanctuary or Prison without an in-game message like above. In most cases, there are likely other reasons why they have been relocated.

Please contact our support team to check what your account status is. Or alternatively, send a direct message to bh-wulfstan on Discord.

I am in Sanctuary, but cannot move anywhere

Please refer to “I received no message…” section above.

The Future of Sanctuary

We will continue to refine our Sanctuary and Prison systems and sentences, so this may change in the near future – with the name change from “Sanctuary” to something else maaaybe being in the nearer future. We will be making an announcement of any such change when it happens.

BFM: Terms of Service Update, Manufacture Units toggle – September 1st Patch Notes

New this week in Battlefront Mars:

Attention Martians!

Terms of Service Update

As per our Terms of Service Section 18, we may change our Terms of Service from time to time, and we are obligated to notify you of such changes.

So…. please be aware that our Terms of Service has been updated. We encourage everyone to review the changes. We reckon most of our players would be most interested on our new alt-account policy, but we hope you take the time to read everything. You can find it HERE.

“Manufacture Units” toggle

And that’s not all, Commanders! We’ve added a small Quality-of-Life update on your Settings menu. The new “Manufacture Units” toggle allows you to split Normal and Elite units for training.

Manufacture Units Toggle

Enabling this will show only either Normal or Elite units for you to train. By default, only the normal units will be shown. By clicking the “Showing” label beneath the unit icons, the window will switch to only showing Elite units.

Only Normal units shown
Only Elite units shown

There are plans to make more units more viable in the future, and this is the one of the first steps to make things easier from a UI perspective.

BFM: Desktop Client is Available for Download!

New this week in Battlefront Mars:

Attention, Martians!

The desktop client is now available for download! You can download it HERE.

Starting the game via the desktop client will create a new account for you. So if you’d like to start fresh, you can do so!

OR you can migrate your main account to the desktop client, and play from either platform! You can do this via the self-service migration tool, which can be found on the Store.

Interested? Please follow the steps below VERY carefully.

Migration Steps

1. Download the client via the above link
2. Install the client, run, and create a new account, preferably, via Microsoft or Google.
3. Skip the tutorial, go to your player info, and write down your newbie account’s player ID.
4. Open up your main account on Facebook, and simultaneously run both for a bit so your newbie account is recognized as an alt.
5. Go to the Store and purchase the “Start Account Migration” item. It will not be active on the store unless you have your Battlehouse account recognized as an alt.

6. Activate item from Warehouse, and enter your newbie account’s player ID.

7. Go back to your newbie account on the client, and check the mail for the “Confirm Account Migration” item.

8. Activate the item from Warehouse, and restart the Thunder Run client. You should now see your main account. If you don’t, please wait 1-2 hours and run the client again.

If you want your old Facebook avatar in-game while using the downloadable client, please go here and log in with your client credentials, and change your avatar from there.

IMPORTANT: As you may have noticed from the screenshots, there are at least THREE warnings that you will LOSE the alt account. If you complete the whole process, we take it that you have acknowledged all three warnings and understood what would happen.

New features will be added to the desktop client over time, so stay tuned!

BFM: Voice of the Commander Updates – July 14th Patch Notes

New this week in Battlefront Mars:

Voice of the Commander Updates

Greetings, Commanders!

Today is a different kind of “Voice of the Commander” day.

Usually, we’d celebrate with a quality-of-life update based on player feedback. It still is player feedback for today, but in a different way.

For the past few months, the gifting system has been popping in and out of existence. Unfortunately, this is due to Facebook breaking something on their side, and is not something we are able to fix on ours.

So we’ve been looking for ways to break free of this reliance on Facebook, and the first step to do that is now here: the “Friends” bar will now show clan members!

A transparent clan logo on a player in your friend bar will indicate that they are a clanmate.

As mentioned before, this is just the beginning. This will be developed further down the road, so stay tuned for more updates!

“Zombie” Battalion Debuff Update Details

And that’s not all, Commander! Last week, we released an update that was intended to address feedback regarding dead or “zombie” battalions. We’d like to clarify a few things, so here are some more details.

The weakened unit debuff previously applied only to attackers, as attackers often have an advantage over defenders due to having a human at the controls. This was causing some unintended effects in the field.

Base defenders and batts immediately next to their own home base do not get the debuff when defending. Batts deployed out in the field now get the debuff.

Keep your batts in fighting shape, Commander, and call them home when they get low on health.

Batt speed will likely soon be adjusted as well to take into account the speed debuff that applies to weakened units.

BFM: Combat Inventory UI Toggle – June 2nd Patch Notes

New this week in Battlefront Mars:

Voice of the Martian Updates

We’re celebrating with a quality-of-life update based on your player feedback that’s intended to address a few of the issues and suggestions that you’ve brought forth to us.

Combat Inventory Bar Config Update

You can now go to your Settings and opt to configure your Inventory Bar to Two Columns.

If you choose Two Columns, your Inventory bar will now be split between Boosts and Missiles, drastically decreasing the amount of scrolling you need to do if you have a lot of them.

Don’t see the update you were hoping for in this week’s releases? Fear not, as there is still plenty more to come!
